California Goldfields (Lasthenia californica) is a low-growing California native annual that carpets meadows and hillsides with brilliant golden-yellow daisy-like flowers in spring. One of the signature wildflowers of California's vernal grasslands.

Growing: Sow in fall to take advantage of winter rains. Full sun, well-drained soil. Tolerates clay and seasonal moisture.

Wildlife: Important early-season nectar source for native bees, including specialist solitary bees.
