Longleaf Bush Lupine (Lupinus longifolius) is a Southern California native shrub producing tall spikes of fragrant blue-purple pea-like flowers above silvery-green foliage. A standout for coastal and inland native gardens.

Growing: Direct sow in fall in full sun and well-drained soil. Scarify or soak seeds overnight to improve germination. Drought-tolerant once established.

Wildlife: Critical host plant for native butterflies and a prized nectar source for bumblebees and other native bees. As a legume, it also fixes nitrogen and improves surrounding soil.
