Arroyo Lupine (Lupinus succulentus) is a California native annual with thick, fleshy stems and showy spikes of deep blue-purple flowers in spring. Quick to establish and reseeds readily.

Growing: Sow in fall through early winter in full sun. Soaking seeds overnight before planting improves germination. Tolerates clay soils and seasonal moisture.

Wildlife: Excellent forage for native bees, especially bumblebees. As a legume, it enriches soil with nitrogen.
