White Sage (Salvia apiana) is a Southern California native evergreen shrub with aromatic silvery-white foliage and tall spikes of pale lavender-to-white flowers. Deeply important to many Indigenous cultures of California.

Growing: Sow in fall or early spring in full sun and very well-drained soil. Light surface coverage only — seeds need light to germinate. Drought-tolerant once established; avoid summer water.

Wildlife: Highly attractive to native bees, carpenter bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies.
